Happy in Jesus

Michael Beck

“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.” (Habakkuk 3:17-19)

What brings us happiness? When our day goes according to plan? When our desires are fulfilled and our dreams come true? When the things we have wanted are finally in our hand? Does our happiness depend on others doing what we’d like them to do? Does it require others treating us the way they should?

There is a joy that transcends the darkest night and most difficult day. When God is our daily portion and strength we can always rejoice. His presence comforts us even when we traverse the valley of the shadow of death. Our cupboard may be bare, but our heart is full when we abide in the Vine. To hear His voice is to have His hand in ours.

Life may fall short on a thousand fronts, but God will never disappoint those who truly trust in Him. Through it all, they will have Him.
