“Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?” (Proverbs 20:24)
What does it take to be a success? Some think talent; others think determination; some chalk it up to mere luck. Most would probably say it’s a combination of all of the above. But if success is the attainment of a goal, it can only be as good as the goal itself. Surely, it is better to fail in reaching an evil destination.
So many bemoan their lack of resources to accomplish their dreams. “If only…” is the common lament of the frustrated. But what if God Himself has stood in the way of our advance? What if our plans and way have not been His plans and way? Is it possible that we have been thwarted by His mercy? “He weakened my strength in the way…” (Ps. 102:23)
One day we will know, even as we are known. We will finally get to see things completely from God’s angle. We will know when it was Him who had fenced up our way that we could not pass. (Job 19:28) Bitterness and anger will be replaced by thanksgiving and praise. We will be grateful for many a failure.
