Godly and Ungodly Faith

Michael Beck

“And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)

Godly faith looks beyond what we can’t do to what God can do. The world teaches its adherents to deny godliness; it promotes self-confidence and an ungodly “faith” which calls men to believe in themselves and their own powers to create the world they want.

How audacious those of the world are becoming. Their God denying, man affirming creed proclaims: “the things which are impossible with God are possible with men.” Dreaming has replaced prayer. Knowing what we want has replaced wanting what God wants.

What does God want? He wants us to trust Him with our whole heart. He wants us to acknowledge Him in all of our ways. He would show Himself to be our faithful God if we would be His faithful people. He wants us to be bold as well in our prayers. He doesn’t want us to be so afraid of His “No” that we never experience His “Yes!”

The world doesn’t know what to do when their faith in themselves doesn’t work. But we who have faith in God should never lose our faith when something we prayed for doesn’t come to pass. It only means that our wise and good God has something better in store for us.
