“For I am the LORD, I change not …” (Malachi 3:6)
It has been noted that God’s declaration of His Name, “I AM that I AM,” is more properly translated from Hebrew as, “I WILL BE who I WILL BE.”
How marvelous to know that nothing man does can change who God is. Whether we like Him or not; whether we respond to Him or not; will not alter who He is. We can bless Him or curse Him; love Him or hate Him – it doesn’t matter. Our attitudes and actions will not manipulate Him. He will go on being who He has always been. He is the same – yesterday, today, and forever.
This does not mean that God is without emotions. He can change from being angry with us to happy with us, or vice versa. What it does mean is that His character and the actions which flow from it are forever settled. He has never been anything other than good; He will remain good for all eternity.
Because God is good, we who have been evil have been given the opportunity to become good. Through the gift of Jesus Christ, we can change in the very depths of our being. We can become like our God for all eternity. Those who pass from death to life; those who Christ changes from sinners to saints; will enter into the eternal kingdom of God, having become forever good, holy, and righteous – just like their unchanging God. They will be who they will be, world without end.
