“And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night” (Exodus 13:21)
To stay within God requires a meek and quiet spirit. Can we trust that God is at work in us to will and do of His good pleasure? Do we believe that if we have presented our bodies to Him as a living sacrifice He will guide us into His good, acceptable, and perfect will? It is our duty to submit ourselves to Him; but it is His duty to teach us and instruct us in the way He would have us to go. Ultimately, He is more interested in us being in His will than even we are.
Do not overthink your situation. Do not fret yourself in any wise to do evil. Worry and anxiety over whether you are “missing God” usually ends up with you missing God. You are a sheep and you have a Shepherd. He knows how to get you from where you are to where He wants you to be. He is in charge of the “cloud.” Rest until it moves.
