Fight Back

Michael Beck

“When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.” (Isaiah 59:19)

If we are to stand in an evil day we must be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. To withstand the onslaught of our enemy, above all else, we must take up the shield of faith which can quench all of his fiery darts.

The devil’s evil take on our life demands a response. We cannot allow his narrative to go unchecked. He is a liar. He is also a thief who wants to take away our joy and peace. He would cripple us with depression if we’re not letting the Spirit of truth lift up a standard against him. The incoming thought designed to weigh us down with sorrow, or crush us with grief, must be met by faith in God’s word of comfort and encouragement. The “reality” that Satan paints for us must be dispelled by the greater truth given to us by the Spirit of God.

The Lord is our glory and the lifter of our head. As we turn to Him for an uplifting word: He has the perfect word in due season to refresh our weary soul; He gives us sweet reminders of His goodness and faithfulness; He provides us with facts that shoot huge holes in Satan’s evil report.

Yes, the enemy wants to come in like a flood. To that end, He would pepper our mind with regrets about our past and despair about our future. He hopes we will fall into the fetal position of self-pity and become his punching bag until he gets the evil “breakthrough” he’s looking for. The aim of his badgering is to get us to simply collapse, give up, surrender, throw in the towel. He would overthrow our faith, our hope, and our love for God. His worst nightmare is to see a believer still standing after his most ferocious assault on their mind, spirit, and body fails.

The just shall live by faith, without drawing back. Their faith is nurtured by the ministry of the Holy Spirit to their heart. Thank God for the standard He raises for us; and the victory He gives us against a wily foe who wants us to see ourselves as a loser. Don’t fall for his tricks. Know that he is the biggest loser of all. Fight back! By the Spirit of God, mount a counterattack, and bring him down to defeat today!
