Fellowship With Christ

Michael Beck

“God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Corinthians 1:9)

The Father has made us for His Son. The mystery hidden from before the foundation of the world is the perfect union of a redeemed humanity with their Redeemer. Until that connection is made man is alone, isolated, restlessly far from “Home.”

Man’s search to find connection and completeness apart from Christ is destined for failure. We may in many regards be unequally yoked with our closest earthly companion, but rather than being the cause of anger or resentment, such disconnection should be the catalyst to greater connection to the wonderful Friend we have in Jesus.

Fellowship with Christ must compensate for the fellowship we lack with other human beings. The fellowship we share with Him is the fellowship of Man with man. Every heart knows their own bitterness and joy. The Word made flesh was made a partaker of our every joy and sorrow. Only He can relate to every heart. To have fellowship with Him is to know He knows when no one else does. To have fellowship with Him is to let Him enter in with all His comfort and healing graces and sustain us at every lonely and painful juncture of our journey.

The Savior has come to Zion. Those who live there have been given beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. The days of mourning are past. What we did not get, or are not getting from the world of men, no longer matters. We rejoice in the Lord Jesus Christ – our Best Friend, our Cherished Companion – who is all we ever needed, and more than enough.
