“Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.” (Jeremiah 23:32)
It seems like anyone can say anything nowadays. People make all kinds of claims without any backing. A lying spirit pervades society. Eventually, no one will be trusted. Just about everything will be deemed as “fake news.” But a lying spirit has operated unchecked in the church for many years.
When over and over, prophecies fail; things spoken of as done, don’t happen; those claimed to have been healed die or continue in sickness, when do we call people out as liars and presumptuous in their pronouncements? How much “lightness” and fraud are we willing to accept in our midst? Isn’t the church of the living God, called to be the pillar and ground of the truth? (1 Timothy 3:15)
Speaking anything in the name of the Lord that He had not spoken was a deadly serious offence in biblical times. (Deut. 18:20-22) Why are we so cavalier about it in this day? Why is no one held to account for the idle words which they speak? When will someone tell the emperor he has no clothes? Judgment must begin at the house of God.
