Extravagant Love

Michael Beck

“And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.” (2 Corinthians 12:15)

The Lord of glory is worthy of all honor. Yet, He receives far less than He deserves. He is acquainted with the grief and sorrow of rejection. He knows what it feels like to be unwanted. But what is His response? He continues to love when not loved. He continues to give though getting nothing. He is patient, forbearing, and longsuffering. His goodness leads us to repentance. His longsuffering is our salvation.

God’s love for us is extravagant, extraordinary, unusual. He “so loved” that He gave to those who had given Him nothing but grief. A God who has so loved deserves to be so loved.
