Don’t Give Up, Look Up

Michael Beck

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

For something to be renewed it had to have expired. There are times when we reach our limit. We’re tired, we’ve had enough, we feel like giving up. What should we do when we’ve hit such a rock bottom? Wait on the Lord. What does that mean? It means whatever else we feel like giving up on, we don’t give up on Him! We keep looking to Him to lift us up, to give us strength to keep going – not a plodding ahead in slow motion with our heads and hands hanging down; but a brisk walking, even running – with renewed purpose and vigor, intent to finish our race with joy.

We all can “hit the wall” at one time or another. Discouragement waylays us. We can fall into a pit where weariness, doubt, and despair can tailspin into depression. Trying to pick ourselves up doesn’t work. Only the Lord knows exactly how to get us up and out of our melancholy state.

Waiting on God is not something we do for an hour or a day. It is something we do until we find in Him the renewed strength we need. We keep looking, keep trusting, keep believing that He will come through for us.

The promise is sure: They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. Don’t give up, look up!
