Destroying Brightness

Michael Beck

“And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming” (2 Thessalonians 2:8)

Darkness cannot defeat darkness. Railing against evil isn’t helpful; it does more harm than good. Angels know better. “Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee” (Jude 1:9).

Only light can reprove darkness. Truth must enter and set free. How patient we must be unto the coming of the Lord. The brightness of His coming will destroy the wicked powers that be. His reign of righteousness and truth will dispel the darkness that now covers the earth.

It is not enough to see the wrongs that envelop us. The servant of the Lord must not strive. Our agitation is not enough. We must be patient, and apt to teach, imparting the truth which God has imparted to us. Perhaps some will hear. Others will not. Either way, may we know that nothing other than the brightness of His light and the spirit of His mouth has any chance of destroying the darkness.

Are you surrounded by darkness? Does the evil you behold vex your spirit? Behold the beauty of your Lord. Let Him transfigure you. Then, arise and shine in this present dark world, knowing a new and better world is about to dawn with the brightness of His coming.
