Close Connection

Michael Beck

“But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.” (Deuteronomy 4:4)

What kind of connection do we have with God? Is He a casual acquaintance that we see from time to time? Do we bump into Him every so often, maybe when we go to church? Do we periodically stay in touch with Him, maybe give Him a call every so often? Or are we cleaving to Him day and night, including Him in every decision we make, calling on Him in both little and big things to be by our side?

God will not be an intruder in our life. He will always be a welcomed guest. He stands at the door and knocks. We decide how much of Him we want. “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” (Prov. 18:24) What a friend we have in Jesus! He is a friend that will cleave to us, if we will let Him. The impact of His presence in our life will be greater than that of our nearest and dearest friend or relative.

The choice is ours: if we will draw near to God, He will draw near to us. If we keep our distance from Him, He will be far off from us. When was the last time God heard from you? When was the last time you heard from God? There is no “respectable distance” to be kept from God. In Christ, we have the continuous privilege and opportunity to draw near to Him. In His presence is joy and peace and life.

What are you waiting for? He calls you friend. Show yourself friendly. Get closer. Connect. He is your life.
