Cleave to Your God

Michael Beck

“But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Joshua 22:5)

When the Lord saves us our spirit is “joined” to His. (1 Cor. 6:17) He brings us into His sweet fellowship. We now have the opportunity to commune with Him. We have entered the “bond of the covenant.” Should our speaking to Him and hearing from Him be considered an unpleasant “duty,” or should we delight in the covenant privileges we have been given? The Lord takes pleasure in His people; He desires that His people take pleasure in Him. He would have us “cleave unto Him.”

No matter what ups or downs you may face in life, do not let anything shake you free of your God. Let troubles drive you closer to Him. Find your refuge in His loving arms. Let His promises strengthen and comfort you. Let Him be your oasis in a dry and weary land. Don’t only wait on Him for a change to come, wait with Him through the longest night. Journey through life with Him, hand in hand. Cleave to your Lord at all times.
