Bright Hope for Tomorrow

Michael Beck

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” (Proverbs 29:18)

Even in the midst of the most troubling present, the prophets were able to gave the people a vision for a brighter tomorrow, if they would start walking with the Lord. God instructed Isaiah to give both the righteous and the wicked a vision for their future:

“Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.” (Isaiah 3:10,11)

Should we be happy, even if all is going great for us, if we are not walking with God? Woe unto us! Our present happiness will surely give way to a sorrowful future. But what if today is a living hell, and our hearts remain steadfast towards God? We can have the brightest hope that it will go well with us. The best is yet to come!

We need a hopeful vision for the future; but without a life of obedience toward God, this hope is vain. If we are keeping His law; walking in His ways; and loving Him in the midst of today’s trials and temptations, He calls us to rejoice and be happy. Joy is coming in the morning!
