And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him. (Mark 1:17,18)
The disciples followed Jesus without knowing all that was in store for them. All they knew was that He was worth following.
Don’t expect God to give you reasons for everything He wants you to do. We trust in Him with all our heart, we don’t lean to our own understanding, and He directs our paths. He may call us to let down our nets when we think it’s stupid to do so; but we obey Him, and discover He is able to do far more than we can ask or think.
Following Jesus requires that we become as little children. When our dad would say, “Get in the car, let’s go somewhere,” did we have to know where we were going, or were we super-excited that a surprise was in store?
Don’t overthink things. Don’t observe the winds and the waves. Learn to hear the still, small voice of God, and obey. Understanding and joy will come later. Experience in God follows obedience to God.
