Blessed Control

Michael Beck

“Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?” (Matthew 20:15)

We have so many plans and ideas we want to see realized … and then life happens, quite different than we dreamed. Likewise, we have worries and fears which menace us, threatening to wreck our future … and they don’t come true. All a bunch of blustering nonsense.

At the end of the day, our desires and fears will not have the final say in how our life turns out. God is greater than our heart, and if we are His, He will do for us far beyond all we asked or thought. (Eph. 3:20)

We can do whatever we want with what belongs to us. When something is ours it is under our control. “Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power?” (Acts 5:4) If we have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ, we are no longer our own, we are His. (1 Cor. 6:19,20)

Doesn’t He have the right to do with us whatever He chooses? Doesn’t He have the right to grant or veto any wish or prayer we make? No? Yes?

The place He would bring us to is one of total trust. A confidence that He cannot and will not fail us. A certainty that He will take better care of His possession than we could ever dream of. Whether and however we live or die, we are the Lord’s. (Rom. 14:8) Abandon yourself to His blessed control.
