“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23,24)
There are things which bother us more than we let on. Often, we don’t realize how angry something made us until we find ourselves not being able to let it go. But the Lord knows what’s stuck in our craw.
The first problem we have is wanting to appear sturdier than we are. We would like others to think we are unfazed by the things which happen to us. We don’t have to wear our heart on our sleeve, but being honest before God is necessary if our heart is to be kept clean of bitterness.
What will God do for us if we go to Him with all our hurts? He will apply His wisdom and understanding to our situation. His Word will serve as a “corrective brace” that will keep our soul upright. Things will not get secretly “out of hand” in our spirit.
None of us are strong enough to rightly deal with all that occurs in our life. We get more easily bent out of shape than we like to admit. We need One greater than ourselves to lean on and learn from. His name is Jesus. Let Him peel back the facade, and tend to the outstanding issues of your heart. He will bend you back into His shape.
