Being in a Person, Not Getting to a “Place”

Michael Beck

“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power” (Colossians 2:6-10)

The Father is not expecting His children to get to a place (i.e., a state, a realm, a “locked-in zone”) where they will finally arrive at the “promised land” of His blessings. All His children are already in a Person (i.e., His Son) and in Him we are blessed and have all things that pertain to life and godliness. (2 Pet. 1:3) God simply wants us to grow, and He Himself alone is able to uniquely facilitate growth in each one of us.

Beware of any person, group, or “higher life” teaching that promises to get you “there.” There is no “there.” There is only Jesus.
