Beggar’s Boast

Michael Beck

“My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.” (Psalm 34:2,3)

There is one simple reason to boast in the Lord: we know how good He is. God wants us to experience His goodness because when we do we become His biggest “fans.” We are ever urging others to find in the Lord what we have found. “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” (Psalm 34:8)

When scripture speaks of God “hearing” us it doesn’t mean our cry has merely entered His ears, it means He has answered us with a hand of salvation. “This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” (Psalm 34:6) Never be ashamed of being a poor beggar before God. Want drives us to God. It causes us to seek Him. “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” (Psalm 34:4)

When God has supplied for our wants we want others to know He can do the same for them. “O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.” (Psalm 34:9,10)

God turns beggars into the richest of all people. He fills the lives of those who fear Him with good things; and He fills their mouths with a glowing testimony to His goodness.
