All the Help We Need

Michael Beck

“Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.” (John 16:32)

Many bemoan the fact that they lack support and encouragement from others. Jesus needed no one behind or beside Him but the Father to complete His mission. When God has given you something to do, He will be all you need to accomplish it. “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.” (1 Thes. 5:24)

It is fine to attract those who the Lord wants you to attract. Those who the Father was drawing came to the Son. But in the end, even His closest disciples could not pray with Him for one hour. Having met the Father once again in the place of prayer, He said: “It is enough.” (Mk. 14:41)

Who are we really going to depend upon to finish what the Lord has given us to do? God will let flesh and blood fail and forsake us. The test of trust is whether we will keep going with our eyes solely on our God. If He has called us to go, He will be with us always. “Go ye therefore … and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” (Mt. 28:19,20)

One day we will answer to the Lord for what He gave us to do. There will be no excuses for not getting the job done. “I didn’t have enough help” will not do. For He will say to us: “I was all the help you ever needed.”
