Two Spirits

Michael Beck

There are really only two spirits to be found in the earth today. One is the spirit that exists in the prince of the power of the air. It is the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience. This spirit is self consumed. It focuses on the fulfillment of its own pleasures. It is native to Lucifer who corrupted himself when his existence became all about him. Those who “live unto themselves” are the walking dead who follow in the footsteps of this self-serving being, who determined long ago to make his throne “as the throne of God.”

All who are born into this world arrive with this spirit already implanted within. No man is naturally a worshipper of God. We are all born ready to worship ourselves. In due time, each of us discover a world that calls us to “dig in.” Because our spirit is primed and ready to go where we want to go and get what we want to get, we become avid explorers and greedy consumers of all that is in the world. But something happens inside of us that we did not anticipate when we started off. In greedily serving ourselves, we became more and more calloused to the real lives around us. People became obstacles in our way or objects for our consumption. We became increasingly calloused to human beings, their lives, their welfare, their feelings. Our great love for the world in reality was a greedy lust for the world, born out of a Luciferic love for ourselves. Truly, we became one with that hideous spirit who would sacrifice any and all on the altar of his own pleasure.

The other Spirit that is in the earth does not sacrifice others, it sacrifices itself. It is the Spirit that was in Jesus Christ, whose love for this world is a love for the human beings in the world. Such a spirit of love does not seek her own and is willing to deny itself. It is not after its own pleasure, it lives for God’s pleasure. In order to have such a spirit operating in you, you must be born again, you must receive the nature of God who is love. Only when the spirit of that wicked one has been taken from your life, and a heart of flesh has replaced a heart of stone, will you be able to look upon the world around you with a desire to give and not to take. Then you will be able to love all, under any circumstances.

Oh how this earth is in desperate need of more people who are born of God’s Spirit, who walk in that Spirit, who know what manner of spirit they now are of, and hate that spirit which they once lived and walked in. The distinction between these two spirits is remarkable, as different as night and day. Truly, there is only darkness and light. There is only Lucifer and Jesus. There is only selfishness and love.

Don’t expect to change without God. You can not will yourself to be different. The spirit within you is too deeply engrained. If you are not born again, it is your nature to love yourself more than anyone else. Take hope though because today God is in the business of changing people, from the inside out. There will never be a new “you” until your body becomes the home for a new Spirit. And God stands ready to give you that Spirit, in the name of Jesus.

“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you.” (Ezekiel 36:26,27)
