“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9:6,7)
What is the fate of this world? Where will it all end? Is our planet doomed or will things somehow get progressively better?
One thing is certain, our world cannot right itself. We have not and will not get better on our own. Man cannot save man. No enlightened leader, no better form of government, no more civilized version of mankind will bring about a utopian world of peace and harmony. It’s been tried before many times … and failed.
But the prophet Isaiah saw hope on the horizon. He foresaw the coming of the Messiah, the Ruler who would bring peace to the earth. He called Him “the Prince of Peace.”
Jesus is the Prince of Peace, who came already to save the individual and is coming again to save the whole world.
Until Christ returns and sets up His kingdom upon the earth we will never find lasting peace. Jesus is the hope of our world. He alone can rescue us from the conflict and turmoil we cannot break free from. When He returns a new and ever-increasing era of peace will spread throughout the whole earth. The lion will lie down with the lamb. Men will beat their swords into ploughshares. They will “learn war no more.” In all the earth no one will hurt anyone else.
“They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” (Isaiah 11:9)
Our world lacks peace because peace is missing from the hearts of men. What Jesus will one day do for the whole earth, He now does for the individual. He came to bring peace on earth by first bringing peace to the human heart.
No man can make peace with himself or others until He has peace with God. Only through God’s Son can you be brought into good terms with your Maker. Jesus died to reconcile us to God. Through His sacrifice on the cross, God has made a way for you to have all your sins forgiven and taken away. He brings you to Himself and then enters your life, ushering in right where there was wrong; love where there was hate; joy where there was sorrow; and peace where there was chaos. He establishes His kingdom in your heart.
If the Prince of Peace is not your Savior and Lord, there is a missing peace in your life.
Turn to Him now. Call upon Him before it is too late. Let Him wipe away your sin and make you right with God. Let Him give you a brand new start and a peace you have never known before.
Where Jesus rules there is peace. Where Jesus is not Lord there can never be peace.
