Poem

Why We Serve

Michael Beck

Where will you go without God by your side?
Do you think you’ll succeed in the way that is wide?
Though many are with you, and smoothly you sail
Sooner or later you surely will fail

Know for a fact though today’s looking good
When you go without God, you don’t go as you should
For to live for yourself, all your pleasure to gain
Is to not live for God nor to honor His name

His pleasure, not yours, is the reason you’re made
Your glory though great will in time surely fade
Any fun you may have, any freedom you feel
In a matter of time will not be very real

But if every day of your life is superb
And nothing but good from the world you are served
Don’t think you were wise to proceed without God
And laugh at the few who were ruled by His rod

For though in this life they met nothing but woe
As they walked narrow path, without God wouldn’t go
They served not on earth to gain back a reward
“Worthy!” they cry, “is the one who is Lord!”
