Missing God’s Beat

Michael Beck

We speak when we ought to be silent
We’re dumb when our voice should be heard
We hear when it’s best not to listen
We’re deaf when in need of God’s word
We look when we ought to know nothing
We’re blind when our eyes ought to see
We go when we need to be patient
We stay when God wants us to flee
We hate when we ought to be loving
We love when it is time to hate
We get when it’s wise to be frugal
We keep when we should give away
We laugh when we ought to be weeping
We’re sad when a smile suits our face
We hold when our arms should be empty
We’re cold when we ought to embrace
A time has been made for each purpose
A season when things should be done
Make sure that in all God is leading
Or you’ll miss the beat for each one.
