Poem

Godly Tough

Michael Beck

There is no desert, parched and dry
Where rose can’t blossom, streams can’t rise
There is no prison, dark and cold
Where light can’t enter, arms can’t hold
There is no trouble, well deserved
Where God won’t help when cry is heard
There is no pit, so low, so deep
Which places us beyond God’s reach
There is no sinner so depraved
Who can’t be righted, cleansed and saved

God’s mercies rise with every day
With light to shed on someone’s way
Who will look up and not despair
Who will trust Christ and Satan dare
No matter what the state you’re in
God’s grace is greater; look to Him
Wells of refreshment He will bring
While still in chains, the prisoners sing
Though tears still flow through longest night
Though all’s still wrong, He’ll keep you right

So take up shield and take up sword
You fight not flesh, but Satan’s horde
Who comes to take what God would give
Who’d rather you in shadows live
Break free from pits within your soul
Where light is gone and joy is stole
Let God be God within each place
He’s reaching out to give you grace
A change can happen soon enough
But now, through Christ, be godly tough
