“For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.” (Proverbs 3:12)
Jesus was no flatterer. He called no man good. But He did recognize the instinct in fathers to do good things for their children. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” (Matthew 7:11)
What excitement there is when a father tells his child to hop in the car for a ride! “Where are we going, Daddy?” The father’s joy is found in delighting his child. “Oh, you’ll see!”
Our Father is a good father. He loves us enough to chasten us. We don’t always know what He is after, but He is always after our best, and our best is to be like Him. Trust He knows where He’s taking you. Acknowledge Him in all your ways. When the Lord is at the helm of our life, there is a blessed surprise awaiting us, even at the end of the darkest road. God always has good up His sleeve for His beloved children.
