“For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away” (1 Peter 1:24)
Men, even the best of them, will fail you. They will disappoint you. They will not be all you wanted or hoped they would be. The man you thought you knew, God really knew. God saw what you did not. God did not glory in what you gloried in.
God glories in no human being. God glories in Himself. He sees when we are abiding in Him and He sees when we are trusting in ourselves. He is not impressed by the things which impress men. He knows when His virtue is at work in us. He knows when we are producing more leaves than fruit. One day what He sees and knows will be known to all. Then no flesh will be glorying in any man. We will glory alone in God from whom all good and glory comes.
Let the world praise flesh. Let the church glory in God.
