Through it All

Michael Beck

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4)

The absence of man can be borne when the presence of God is close at hand. The dearest companion and friend may not be there for us, but the Lord says: “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Heb. 13:5)

Oh to walk through life with God! Through it all – good and bad, joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain – He is ours and we are His. From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, to have our Shepherd’s presence with us is our greatest comfort. We need the assurance that we have a Protector and Provider close by; one who loves us so dearly He would lay down His life for us.

What a Friend we have in Jesus! He is our Guide and Companion throughout the many twists and turns our life can take. Because He is with us, goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our life. And when we are in the valley of the shadow of death we are without fear because He remains right by our side, with His hand in ours.

People come and go. They are with us one day, and gone the next. They help us as they can when they can. But the Lord is our eternal Refuge. His help, His presence, are new every morning and last even beyond the moment when our eyes close at night.
