“He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.” (Proverbs 14:29)
What is hastiness of spirit other than impatience? We become weary, tired, “fed up,” with one thing or another. We don’t like the way things are and we ask, “How long will this go on?!” In such a heated mind are we in a position to learn anything? No. How can God show us anything when we are steaming? Only when we determine to cool down can we begin to hear from God. Now we can receive “great understanding” – about ourselves, others, and the way God would have us walk in the midst of suffering. The alternative to gaining understanding is to “exalt folly” as we make our anger known. God help us to understand how we “short-circuit” His ministry to us when we get overheated.
