The Reward of Obedience

Michael Beck

“Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?” (Matthew 19:27)

Discipleship is costly, but so worth the price. When we first start off on the path of obedience, we only know the loss side of the equation. The sorrow of the rich, young ruler was more than he could bear. He knew the pleasure of holding on to his earthly goods, he could not contemplate the greater treasure that would be his if he let go.

In the Lord’s economy, gain always follows loss. But before we have tasted and seen that the Lord is good we must trust Him. What eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor heart imagined, is in store for those who love their Lord. He does not disappoint those who put their trust in Him. He does far above and beyond all we could ask or think. He gave Job double for all he lost; He promised Peter a hundredfold return.

Step out into the land of uprightness. Do what you know God would have you do. Do it simply because you love Him, and He is worthy of your all. He will make sure you won’t regret it.
