“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” (1 John 2:27)
God Himself is the perfect tutor in any life. Men would like to take His place and have others sit at their feet. They claim hidden knowledge that is vital for others. And yet, if we would simply be obedient to the Lord’s voice in our own life, we would have no need for any man to teach us. He would teach us all things and lead us perfectly. He would give us exactly what we need in order to grow in Him.
When men enter the picture, especially those who purport that they are “anointed ones,” we are in danger of being so dazzled and overawed that we distrust our own ability to hear from God. And so we become disciples of a man, sitting at his feet, and trying to duplicate his experience. The trap here is very subtle and catches the most sincere.
The only way to escape this snare is to jealously guard your own relationship with the Holy Spirit. You can hear from God. He will teach you and instruct you in the way that you should go. He does not want you to hear from Him through another. He is in you so there might be a direct channel. In this new covenant, we are all to know the Lord, from the least to the greatest.
