“And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them …” (Jeremiah 5:13)
Better to be a nobody, than a false somebody. False apostles, false prophets, false ministers have always been the scourge of the church. Their words create confusion. They are absent the mind of the Lord. They speak what He has not spoken. They run where they have not been sent.
To be activated by our own passion is the easiest thing for us to do. To mistake our own thoughts and emotions for the very heart and mind of God is the essence of being a false witness. To wear the yoke of Christ is to do nothing of yourself.
We are in a day of great confusion because there are so many voices competing with each other. Parties and factions align with an insistence that they alone are right and see things clearly. But who really speaks for God? Only those who are not animated by their own sense of justice and truth and right. Only those who have learned to distrust their own eyes and ears and heart, and have taken the time and effort to stand in the counsel of God.
In a day when false representatives of God were rampant, Jeremiah asked: “For who hath stood in the counsel of the LORD, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it?” (Jer. 23:18) The answer then, and the answer now, is very few. Many aspire to be a voice for God; few are.
Heat is not the primary characteristic of a true minister. The sun provides both heat and light. We have an overabundance of heat in this day, but very little light.
Pray that the Lord will raise up true ambassadors – those not ruled by their own spirits, but truly led by His Spirit. The world will surely hate them when they appear. But the church will be enriched with a clarity it has been sorely lacking.
