Pursue Patience

Michael Beck

“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” (James 1:4)

Patience is an intermediate destination on the road to maturity. It is a worthy goal in and of itself. It is the gateway to fruitfulness. It gives us the opportunity to encounter God and all His provisions for our every need. It keeps us from the folly of a hasty spirit. It is more than a virtue; it is the ground of all virtues.

We need not even ask: “Why wait?” The answer is no more complicated than God calls us to pursue patience (1 Tim. 6:11). First, get to patience; once there, let patience have her perfect work. You will understand better by and by the great rewards that await the patient. Patience is our stepping stone to God’s manifold blessing. Instead of despising it, we should value every occasion to practice it. Something good is always down the road from patience.
