No Time to Lose

Michael Beck

“He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” (Psalm 107:20)

There is often a very narrow escape path that God gives us to get out of some dangerous place. I don’t mean a physical place. I mean a place where our soul is in spiritual jeopardy. This path comes to us by way of His word. He sends His word to deliver us from our destructions.

Think of the Lord as a spiritual fireman who enters the burning building in which you are trapped. You cannot get out on your own, but if you don’t get out you will perish. The Lord draws near to us in our desperate situation, with clear instruction as to what we are to do. If we argue with Him, ignore or resist His instruction at such a crucial moment, we will not escape the danger we are in. If we don’t obey His voice, our “house” will burn down with us inside

We live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. When He throws us out a “lifeline,” we must take it quickly. We don’t have time to delay. “I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.” (Psalm 119:60)

We cannot afford to lean to our own understanding or despise His clear instruction. If we are to be rescued we must receive His word to us with meekness. “… Receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” (James 1:21)

The consequence of spurning God’s counsel is severe. It is the difference between life and death. Give God your ear before it is too late. Be a doer of His Word, not a forgetful hearer.

“Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.” (Proverbs 8:33-36)
