“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” (Matthew 23:27,28)
The Father seeks those who truly worship Him. He is not fooled by the outwardly religious. He is not impressed by a “form of godliness.”
We may keep ourselves from some behavior, not because it is displeasing to God, but because our society frowns upon it. Neither are we moral if the reason we don’t do something is because we haven’t been given the opportunity to do it.
True godliness is proven in a lawless day when evil is called good. The true worshipper of God will stand alone and not compromise when “everyone else is doing it.” He will not buckle in his hour of temptation.
God is gathering a holy people who will stay true to Him for eternity. An unsurrendered heart can disguise itself with an appearance of morality. But sooner or later, it will reveal itself. Hypocrisy is a leaven that in time will surface.
Now is the time to worship God in truth. Be a good citizen of the kingdom to come now.
