“But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus” (Ephesians 4:20,21)
Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith. We start with Him and we end with Him. He is the Alpha and Omega, and everything in between. Paul told us his purpose for living: “For to me to live is Christ …” (Philippians 1:21) This is the purpose for every child of God: we are called to be partakers of Christ; to be as He is in this world. To this end, He must be the focal point of our existence.
How hungry are we to know Jesus? He calls us to come to Him to learn of Him. Conformity to Him is the good that God would work all things together toward. The question we should always be asking ourselves is: How can what I am going through right now make me more like Jesus? How can it deepen my knowledge of Him?
Those who lack purpose lose themselves in pleasure. Our lives were once adrift. Alienated from God, we gave ourselves over to the desires of our flesh and mind. But God in His mercy sent His Son into the world to recalibrate our lives. Christ is the Daystar who has arisen in our hearts, pointing us to the very purpose for which we have been created.
No matter how fulfilling you may think your life is, it falls far short of God’s destiny if His Son has not arisen over you. He will point you to joy unspeakable and full of glory. He will make everything else that once fueled your existence seem like dung.
