“Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.” (Psalm 119:6)
There was only one Man who had no experience of evil. He was tempted in all points, as we are, but He never gave in. He did not learn through experience that the way of the transgressor is hard. He did not discover firsthand what an evil and bitter thing it is to forsake God. Within and upon Him was the anointing of the fear of the Lord which hates evil (Isa.11:2,3; Prov. 8:13). He did not have to taste evil to know how nasty it is; He could smell it a mile away.
The same spirit that was within and upon Jesus is within and upon those who are His. And if you don’t have the Spirit of Christ, which hates evil and loves righteousness residing in you, you don’t belong to Him (Rom. 8:9).
We who are saved once walked in all manner of sin and iniquity. We dwelt in the pigsty and rolled around in the mud. We greedily ate from the table of devils and drank iniquity like water. We were ignorant and deceived. We were alienated from the life of God. We were calloused and confused concerning what He calls evil, bitter, and dark. But now, if we have been born again and have the Spirit of our Lord within us, we know better. The anointing He has given us teaches us all things from His perspective (1 John 2:27).
This the redeemed of the Lord know: we don’t have to go back to the vomit of our past to know how evil it is. We don’t have to wallow again in the mire of sin. We are taught of God to hate evil and love righteousness by the same anointing that Jesus walked in.
Let’s be done with experiencing those things which our God hates. Let’s gain a rich and full experience in those things He loves. Jesus took away our shame when we got saved. God forbid we take it back by not walking in His Spirit.
