It is Well With My Soul

Michael Beck

“The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.” (Lamentations 3:24-28)

There is a cooperation between our soul and God where He humbles and we agree to be humbled. Instead of complaining about what we don’t have we say, “It is well with my soul.” We declare that He is our Portion and we confess that He is a good God to us. No matter what our present situation looks like our hope is in Him. We learn to wait on Him with a meek and quiet spirit. We let others run and do, go and get, while we wear His yoke. We sit and keep silence. We do not groan or grumble or envy. We let our heart be proven in a wilderness of want. And when God has finished His work in us, our spirit which once angrily screamed: “It is NOT enough!” is finally ready to say: “You Lord are ALL I really need.”
