“Good” Friday?

Michael Beck

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

If in retrospect, we call this day, “Good Friday,” is there anything we go through, that we cannot call good? Do we really believe that, “It’s all good”?

We rejoice today in the blessings that “Good Friday” has brought to us. It’s always easy to rejoice and give thanks after we have learned what God was up to; but God wants us to give Him thanks beforehand, trusting Him with all our heart and leaning not to our own understanding.

The cross is folly to the mass of mankind. They cannot fathom how God could bring good out of such a cruel event. But the redeemed of the Lord, who are the blessed beneficiaries of that cruel cross, have no trouble declaring how good that day was.

May we who love God, and are the called according to His purpose, know that our blessed Redeemer is able to work all things together for good in our lives. It may be hard to understand how at times, but one day, looking back, we will understand and marvel. For now, give thanks in everything.
