Getting a Second Wind

Michael Beck

“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” (Isaiah 40:29)

There are times when life “knocks the wind” out of us. It is not that we are physically weak; we are weary and faint in our minds – dispirited, disheartened, even numb. We can feel such when we are in great trouble and trial, especially the sort that is ongoing. To even know how to articulate a prayer can be difficult. We not only feel mentally and emotionally spent, we also feel spiritually empty.

It is important to remember that our faith does not depend on our feelings. God is greater than our emotions. Waiting on God does not have to be accompanied by anything other than a quiet hope that He loves us and is for us and is at work whether we see His hand or not.

Prayers don’t have to be eloquent to be heard. He hears our groanings. Our tears are in His bottle. He knows what we have need of before we utter a word. He simply wants our eye to be toward Him and our hope to be in Him. He then will renew our strength. He will give us the courage we need to go forward. Knowing our cares have been cast upon such a great God who cares for us will shield our heart and mind from tormenting worry and fear.

God doesn’t need you to be strong. He needs you to know that He is almighty and nothing is impossible for Him. And the more your faith rests in Him, the more your strength will increase. Wait on Him. He will give you a “second wind.”
