“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Worldly people do not “rejoice evermore.” They are on the top of the world when things are going their way, but they are in the pits when things aren’t. They don’t “pray without ceasing.” If they pray at all, it is only a passing, “God, if you’re there, please do this or that for me.” They don’t “in every thing give thanks.” They live in anger and upsetment over the way things are. There is no ability to overcome; there is only a being overcome by a life that is too often not to their liking.
To walk through this life without the “cushioning” of God’s Spirit is to be without spiritual cartilage. The pain of “bone against bone” makes it difficult for us to keep going. We become weary with it all. We ask, “When will it end?” as though somehow life should all of a sudden be without any unpleasantness or adversity.
Do not take for granted the comfort and consolation that God would give you in every situation of life. The majority of those around you are limping around in pain.
