“When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.” (Proverbs 26:25)
Although some people are really good at lying, there really is no such thing as a good liar. An accomplished liar knows how to talk you into going down a foolish path. He is a swindler who promises you a gold mine while he picks your pockets. He’ll convince you he’s on your side, when he’s only out for himself. He’ll play on your hopes and fears – assuring you all will be well if you listen to him, and doom awaits you if you don’t.
Jesus called the devil, “the father of lies.” (John 8:44) He operates in the minds of men to blind them from seeing God’s truth and to convince them of his “truth.” First, he must get you to dismiss God’s Word by telling you it’s not true and you shouldn’t pay it any mind. He is a scorner who wants you to scorn the counsel of God. He is like the birds of the air who carry away the life giving seed that could benefit your life. Once he’s made sure you’ve turned a deaf ear to sound words, he can capture your ear with his ungodly counsel, telling you what you must do in order to save yourself. He would order your steps in his word.
Paul told the church that Satan would gain an advantage over them if they were ignorant of his devices. (2 Cor. 2:11) Our safety lies in hearing the voice of the good Shepherd. The devil pretends to be a good shepherd, but he is a wolf. We are not to believe every spirit that would whisper in our ear. We are to try the spirits to see whether they are of God. (1 John 4:1) Seducing spirits and teachings of devils are all around and gaining a greater audience day by day. Oh how the saints of God need a discerning of spirits to withstand the wiles of their adversary. He is a defeated foe; but he wins when we believe him. When he speaks fair, believe him not!
