“And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.” (Deuteronomy 8:3)
Are you in a lean season? Be careful of murmuring and complaining and longing for it to end. A wilderness where we must depend upon God for our daily bread is not a bad thing. There we are humbled and kept looking toward the heavens. There we are trained to live within the means He provides. There we are challenged not to “turn stones into bread” and to live by every word that proceeds from God’s mouth.
Of course, we would rather be in a land flowing with milk and honey, but God knows the value of the wilderness more than we do. Be content in whatsoever state you find yourself. Be instructed everywhere and in all things. Know how to be abased. Know how to abound. Do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Gain the blessed experience of watching Him supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. Forty years of miracle food and clothes that didn’t wear out was a mighty faith builder for those about to enter a new season.
