A Heart Toward God

Michael Beck

“One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4)

David was no casual follower of God. When God turned from the semi-religious Saul, He went looking for a man after His own heart, and found one hidden away from the eyes and favor of men. What was God looking for? Deep passion. Heart. Determination to live for Him, fully.

No doubt, David had his faults. But he had a heart to change. He was willing to be corrected. When God reproved him, he repented. David hated to be out of sync with God. He cried: “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation …” (Ps. 51:10-12)

Do you have this same kind of heart toward God? Do you love being in sync with Him? Do you love having your heart upturned toward Him? Is your one desire to dwell in His house, behold His beauty, and enquire in His temple? Be assured, if this is your heart, you will gain the notice of heaven.
