Judgment in Our Goings

Michael Beck

“The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings” (Isaiah 59:8)

Patience requires the strength to wait. Courage requires the strength to move. We need judgment in our goings. As we seek God He gives us the wisdom to know whether we should be patiently waiting or boldly moving. Both ought to proceed from obedience.

Waiting should not be mere hesitancy arising out of fear; moving should not be presumption masquerading as faith. We are sheep who need a Shepherd. To sit still when He would lead us forward; or to venture forth when He would have us lie down are equally foolhardy.

How we look to others means nothing. There is really only one matter of importance: is there God’s judgment in our goings? Are we hearing the voice of our God? Have we sought Him diligently enough that He is in all our thoughts? If so, we are in good hands.
