Get Christ

Michael Beck

“Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ” (Philippians 3:8)

Saul of Tarsus was a hard-driving young man. There was a lot he wanted to get in life. Ambition could have been his middle name. While Saul was busy going after the prizes he valued most, God had a different road for him to get on. This path, toward a higher and holier destination, had not entered his mind. The last thing he wanted was to get Christ. Quite to the contrary, he wanted to get rid of this false Messiah and His followers.

On the road to Damascus, Saul was arrested by the Christ he didn’t know. The blind, zealous religionist was given eyes to see that all he previously lived for was vanity. From then on, all his passion was directed toward knowing this incredible God-man, Jesus Christ. Conformity to His image was his divine destiny. Everything else became inconsequential.

Don’t lose sight of what you really need the most. The gain of all of life’s prizes are dung if Christ remains unknown. He must be our reason to live. He Himself must be the driving passion of our life. Be grateful you have Him. Determine to get Him.
