“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves …” (2 Timothy 3:1,2)
No human being was ever meant to give us all the love we need. Even the best of men will fail us because they are not God. But instead of turning to God when man has come up short, our society is increasingly advocating self-love. This is the new “gospel.” But loving ourselves is not an acceptable option in lieu of not being loved by others. Only God’s love will ever be enough for us.
No matter how people try to spin it, self-love is not healthy. The more radically you love yourself, the greater a danger you will be to yourself and others. Beware of narcissism. It is not harmless.
Don’t idolize others. Don’t idolize yourself. Worship God alone.
