“Behold, a sower went forth to sow” (Matthew 13:3)
God sends forth His Word to people of every type. Some are ready to receive, others are not. Some receive, and later reject. Some reject, and later receive. The sower does not determine the condition of the soil. The sower simply sows. At any given time, the soil is what it is.
Every one of us is ultimately responsible for how we hear and receive the Word of God. Multitudes will be finding their way into hell, not because God Himself determined, before they were born, to withhold from them the ability to receive His word. God makes available. Men either avail themselves of it, or they don’t.
Does this mean salvation depends on us and not on God? Absolutely not. Without the seed, there would be no plant. God has provided a Savior for all. The gospel is to be preached to every creature because every creature is a candidate for salvation. None of us can receive what God is unwilling to give.
Sowers have gone forth to sow. If no fruit results, the fault will always be with the ground, not the seed. It is not too late to change what kind of soil you are. Become good ground, before it’s too late!
