Pity the Poor

Michael Beck

“Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.” (Jeremiah 5:4)

Pity those whose hearts and minds are bereft of the riches of God’s Word.

Pity those who love their own thoughts, instead of God’s.

Pity those who sit at the feet of men, rather than the feet of God.

Pity those who perish for a lack of knowledge.

Pity those who think they see, but are blind.

Pity those who are wise in their own conceits.

Pity those who go day after day without seeking God.

Pity those who go months, years, their whole lives, without knowing the treasures of wisdom and knowledge found in the repository of God’s Word.

Pity those who think they are wiser than God.

Pity those who rebuff the Holy Spirit who would lead them into all truth.

Pity those who dismiss His call to turn from their folly to God’s wisdom.

Pity the poor – who don’t know the way of the Lord, nor the countless things He would teach them, if only they had ears to hear.
