“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” (Psalm 37:23)
David had to be reeled back in from envy. What does it matter where a man without God is today? He may be fabulously wealthy, the toast of the town, a smashing success – but where will he be tomorrow?
“I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.” (Psalm 37:35,36)
We are too easily fooled by appearances. All the success in the world, without God’s direction and favor upon us, is sheer illusion. And what if we don’t have much in the present to indicate success? “A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked” (Ps. 37:16).
True success is walking in daily obedience to God. It is knowing that our steps are ordered by Him and He delights in our way.
Let the world gain this world. It is all passing away. But he who is doing the will of God will one day inherit the earth.
